Sand Candle:
Items needed:
Candle Wicking
cling clay ( flower arranging area of store)
Sand
Paraffin wax
crayon pieces
wooden spoon or dowel
Directions:
Place sand in a bowl, one where a wooden dowel or spoon can lay across the top resting on the edges of a bowl. Hollow out the center forming a bowl in the sand, in the very center go to the very bottom of bowl and with one end of the candle wick stuck in the sticky clay, adhere the sticky clay to bottom of bowl. Cover this again with some of the sand to where the wick is buried about 1-inch in sand. Tie the other end of the wick around the wooden dowel or wooden spoon and lay across the top of the bowl resting it on the edges. Melt the paraffin on the stove in a double boiler or a coffee can placed in a pan of water. ( Never melt wax directly in container on stove- it can catch on fire!) When the wax is melted add what ever color you want by left over pieces of crayon, when all melted and completely mixed, let it cool just to where a thin scum is starting on the top. Pour into the bowl shaped sand you made and let cool until completely hardened. Lift out and trim the wick ( on both sides if you have to) and you have a sand candle. ( the wax will absorb some of the sand making a thin layer on the outside of the candle of sand)
